Volunteering in SVUSD
Thank you for your interest in volunteering! The District recognizes that volunteers provide a variety of services to our schools and can assist in enriching the educational program, increase supervision of students, and contribute to school safety while strengthening the schools' relationships with the community. The Board encourages parents/guardians and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge, and abilities with students (Board Policy 1240).
In order to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors on campus, it is necessary for volunteers to be screened as follows:
Volunteer I
Volunteers I have limited contact with students. As provided in Education Code 45125.1(c), limited contact will be determined by the District based upon the totality of circumstances, including factors such as the length of time the volunteers will be on the school grounds, whether students will be in proximity within the site where the volunteers will be working, and whether the volunteers will be working by themselves or with others.
- Complete the Volunteer I form:
- Complete Volunteer Guidelines Agreement
- Upon each visit, Register through the Raptor System in the front office, which includes checks through Megan’s Law databases to demonstrate that the volunteer is not a registered sex offender. Volunteers will be required to present government-issued identification in order to enable the background check.
- Wear the provided Raptor-issued identification badge in a visible place throughout your presence on campus or at a District-sponsored student activity or program.
- If working with or assisting students, you must be directly supervised by a SVUSD employee.
- Check out through the front office.
